Khartini Slamah: Why she kicks ass
“Speak for yourself! Speak for your country! Don’t let others speak on your behalf!”
She is the Coordinator for the Asia Pacific Network on Sexual Health and Welfareshe is an advocate for the rights of sex workers, people living with HIV and aids and people who do not conform to sexual and gender norms.
As Coordinator of the Asia Pacific Network on Sexual Health and Welfare, she is responsible for updating APNSW members on latest issues relating to sex work, moderating the APNSW list serve, conducting and facilitating trainings and doing advocacy work.
She worked with the PT (Pink Triangle) Foundation, which works with drug users, sex workers, transsexuals, men who have sex with men (MSM), and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). She works as the Chair of the Transgender Core Group and also contributes towards developing the vision and programmes of the foundation.
She is also the founder of Asia Pacific Transgender network (APTN), and is a technical expert on sex work with the WHO. Khartini has also worked with the UNDP and UNAIDS in Kuala Lumpur, and done consultancy work with other international organizations.
